Twas The Night Before Santa Paws

Twas the night before Santa Paws,

When all through the hub,

Not a creature was stirring,

Not even a pug.

The stockings were waiting, in the barn on the suite,

In hopes that attendees will fill them with treats.

The doggies were nestled all snug in their beds,

While visions of squeaky toys, rang in their heads.

With Mamma Dog in her Kennel, and Pup in her lap,

Had just settled down, to a nice winter’s nap.

When outside the kennel, there arose such a clatter,

Pup sprang from the bed, to see what was the matter.

Away from his Mamma, Pup ran through the hatch,

He skipped to the glass door, and opened the clatch.

The moon on the breast of the new-fallen snow,

Gave the lustre of midday to objects below.

And what did our Pup’s eye suddenly nurture,

But a miniature sleigh, and small pack of lurchers.

With a little old driver, with rapturous guffaws,

Pup knew in an instant, was the great Santa Paws.

More rapid than greyhounds, his coursers they came,

And he whistled, and shouted, and called them by name

Now Odie, now Ollie, now Piper and Ted,

On Magic, on Lucy, on Jack-land our sled.

To the top of the kennels! To the top of the wall!

Now dash away! Dash away! Dash away all!”

As dry leaves that before the wild hurricane fly,

When they meet with an obstacle, mount to the sky,

So up to the rehoming centre, the Mighty Madraí, they flew,

With a sleigh full of dog treats, and Santa Paws too.

And then, in a twinkling, Pup heard on the straw,

The prancing and dancing of each little paw.

As Pup drew in his nose, and was turning around,

Through the scent holes, Santa Paws came with a bound.

He was dressed all in Satin, with a flamboyant air,

Though his clothes were all covered with fluff and dog hair.

A bundle of dog treats was flung on his back,

And he resembled a canine carer opening his pack.

His eyes- how they twinkled, his scent-so merry.

His boots smelt like Christmas, his hands like red cherries.

His asked could he rub Pup, like so many forget,

He offered his safe hand, then gave him a pet.

He told him that children, could come to Finglas

And fill up the stocking with treats from St Nicholas.

Then embark on a tour, and learn about dogs

And hear about safety, and drink some egg nog.

This Santa Paws event is on December eighth,

They gather, and celebrate, and learn of Dogs’ fate.

For families of four, the tickets are priced

35 euro-Are you enticed?

A single ticket, will set you back,

A meagre 10 euro, it’s such great craic!

Once Santa Paws had told Pup all this,

His gave him a wink, and blew him a kiss.

And laying his finger aside of his nose,

And giving a nod, out the scent holes, he rose.

He sprang to his sleigh, to his Madraí gave a whistle,

And away they all flew, like the down of a thistle,

But Pup heard his exclaim, ere he drove out of sight,
